John Franklin Sparger

February 22, 1960 — September 11, 2015

John Franklin Sparger, 55, of Lexington, passed away at the Hinkle Hospice House, Friday, September 11, 2015, after a hard fought battle with lung cancer. John was born February 22, 1960, to William Allen Sparger and Johnnie Myriel Hayes Sparger, who pre-deceased him. The interment will be held at Lexington City Cemetery on Sunday, September 27, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Tommy Wilson, Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church. Friends and family are asked to gather in the front parking area of Davidson Funeral Home at 1:45 p.m. to be escorted to Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home following the service. John graduated Lexington High School, and attended Cape Fear Community College. He had previously been employed at Dixie Furniture before its’ closing. John loved everything outdoors and had a special fondness for gardening, especially growing his own tomatoes. He also loved fishing and being near the lake. John was an avid reader who enjoyed reading famous quotations and working cross word puzzles and cryptograms. John had a vast knowledge of current and past events, and an incredible memory. He was also a huge fan of the Beatles, and knew almost every song and lyric they wrote and sang. John had a strong passion for studying music, and could often be found strumming on his guitar. He was a witty person who could make anyone smile with the "made up” jokes he often wrote (although most of them were funny only to him). John was pre-deceased by sisters, Susie Sparger, and Mickey Sparger Brooks. He is survived by brother, William (Bill) Allen Sparger, Jr., (wife Mary) Charlotte, NC. Relatives include brother in law Sparky Brooks, Lexington, nieces Lauren Sparger, Jill Sparger, Kelsey Sparger, and nephew Ben Sparger, Charlotte, NC. Also nieces Whitney Brooks, Lexington, Cameron Brooks, North Myrtle Beach, SC, nephew Harrison Brooks, Lexington, and great nephew, Cooper Lott, North Myrtle Beach, SC. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Kathleen Elliott, Oncologist, Forsyth Hospital Oncology Department, for her care, support, and concerns for John during his illness. The entire Forsyth Oncology department was most helpful to John and his family members during John's illness. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the exceptional care that was provided to John and his family, by the amazing staff at Hinkle Hospice House. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Davidson County Animal Shelter, 490 Glendale Road, Lexington, NC 27292 . John had a tremendous love for his dogs and cats, and often took in many abandoned animals to care for. John would be honored to have been remembered for helping animals to survive and be adopted. Donations may also be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
