John W. “Johnny” Miller, 88, of Lexington, North Carolina, died Saturday, September 19, 2026, at home. 

A private burial will be held at a later date.

He was the son of William Henry Miller and Mary Lee Rackley and the devoted husband of Judy Lomax Miller, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his granddaughter Sarah Strickland. He is survived by his daughters, Sheila Hall (Ed) of Mechanicsville, Virginia; Donna Williams (Philip) of Waxhaw, North Carolina; and Gina Idol (Craig) of Lexington, North Carolina; his sister, Patsy James of Graham; five granddaughters, Marybeth Tedesco (Anthony), Kendall Idol, Karmen Idol, Samantha Hall, and Alexandra Hennig (Dan); his grandson, Marty Johnson; and great-grandchildren Stella Gaskins, Philip Tedesco, Alyssa Tedesco, and Emma Tedesco; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Johnny began his working life in the furniture industry, serving as a supervisor and plant manager in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Later he worked as an independent contractor for Food Lion. 

Those who knew him found a friend who was as tough as he was kind. Family came first. He taught his daughters the outdoors — how to care for animals, ride horses, ride motorcycles, and fish — and made sure they self-sufficient. The work ethic and determination he lived by became theirs as well. He built and repaired whatever family and friends needed and gave his help without keeping score. 

The family is grateful to everyone who cared for Johnny and brought him comfort and company in his last years, and most of all grateful that God allowed them so many years with him.
