John Wesley “Wesley” Hanes, 81, of Becky Hill Rd. in Davidson County, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home on March 17, 2026.
Born on April 3, 1944, in Davidson County, Wesley was the son of the late Shady Hanes and Wilma Walser Hanes. He was a simple and devoted family man who found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved. Wesley cherished traveling with his beloved wife, Linda Poarch Hanes; whether near or far, they found happiness simply being together. He also treasured time spent at his mountain home, where he enjoyed the beauty of nature and the peaceful surroundings.
Wesley was known for his strong work ethic and dedication throughout his life, working as both a farmer and a skilled brick mason. His commitment to his work left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Wesley was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Poarch Hanes; his brother, Baxter Hanes; and his sister, Joanne Leonard.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Glenda Hanes Essic and husband Charles of Lexington; his son, Johnny Ray Hanes and wife Lisa of Lexington; his grandchildren, Travis Essic, Krysta Beaureguard and husband Michael, and Keely Baynard; his great-grandchildren, Kolton and Kora (children of Krysta), and Thea and Gwen (children of Keely), his brother Raeford Hanes of Lexington, his sisters: Martha Stevens of Lexington, Charlotte Massingale of Lexington, Darlene Killian of Lexington, and Francis Cole of Ohio. He is also survived by his special caretaker and friend of the family, Rachel Prevette, and his faithful companion, Rainy.
A funeral service to honor Wesley’s life will take place on Friday, March 20th, 2026, at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel starting at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Shiloh Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County at 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
Wesley will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love of family, and the simple, meaningful life he lived.
