John William Greer

July 16, 1946 — January 18, 2014

John William Greer, age 67 of Briggstown Road, Lexington passed away Saturday afternoon at High Point Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday at Becks Reformed Church with Rev. James Byers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday night and at other times at the residence. John was born in Davidson County on July 16, 1946 to James Zeno and Treva Briggs Greer. He was a lifelong member of Becks Reformed Church where he had served as deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher, member of the cemetery committee and a member of the Koinoia Sunday School class. He was a 1964 graduate of Central Davidson High School; 1968 graduate of Wake Forest University with a BA in Political Science and a 1985 graduate of NC A & T State University with a Masters in Industrial Education. He taught in Davidson County Schools from 1968 until he retired in 1998, having taught at Pilot, Silver Valley and Central Davidson Middle School, where he coached football and basketball. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Greer who passed away on December 29, 2013. Surviving are his loving wife, Judy Carlton Greer; daughter, Meredith Greer Gallimore and husband Jason of Lexington; his grandchildren, Gavin and Aiden; sister-in-law, Joyce Greer of Lexington.
