Johnnie Burnette

Johnnie Wesley Burnette, age 89, of Lexington went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, June 24, 2018.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Freedom Baptist Church in Lexington with Pastor Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow at the Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday.

Mr. Burnette was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on February 7, 1929 to Alonzo Lee Burnette and Alice Layne Burnette. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church for over 30 years and was involved in every aspect of the Church, including playing the piano since 1994. Mr. Burnette retired from Myers Auto Parts having worked in the parts department and proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. He was the inventor of the Lisle oil filter wrench which has been sold worldwide since 1995. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his loving wife, Arlene Staton Burnette of the home; two sons, Barry Burnette (Judy) of Lexington and Duane Burnette (Jane) of Rockingham; sister, Esther Krapf (Chuck) of Whitney Point, NY; two grandsons, Matthew Burnette (Casey) and Wesley Burnette (Devinne); and four great-grandchildren, Elijah, Eliana, Emalyn, and Axel.
