January 31, 1933 — February 20, 2015

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Wallace Young, 82, formerly of Churchland, died Friday, February 20 at Abbotts Creek Center in Lexington. A funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, February 24 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Ray Nance Howell IV. Burial will follow at the Snider Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home of the daughter on Concrete Works Road, Winston Salem. Mrs. Young was born January 31, 1933 in Davidson County to Leroy Wallace and Mae Michael Wallace. She was a graduate of Ashmore Business College and worked until her retirement in customer service in the furniture industry. Her love of children led her to work in the nursery of Churchland Baptist Church for many years, where she also served as assistant pianist and on the benevolent committee. She was an avid reader and enjoyed classical and spiritual selections. She was caregiver for her grandchildren and that was one of her greatest joys. Her loving husband of sixty years, Charley Frank Young, and her son, Robert Lee “Bobby” Young, preceded her in death as well as her brothers, Paul and Jack Wallace, and her sisters, Lutelle Yarborough and Arlene Ghant. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Young McGlamery and husband, Dudley of Midway; daughter in law, Jean Young, her grandchildren, Robbie Young and wife, Leslie; and Adrienne McGlamery Lefler and husband, Brian; and her great-grandchildren, Lee and Caroline Young and Brandon and Bowen Lefler; her sister, Sue Ferrell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
