Johnny Ray Knowles, Jr., 66, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away on November 2, 2026. He was born on October 2, 1960, in High Point, North Carolina, to the late Johnny Ray Knowles, Sr. and Dixie Ruth Knowles.
Johnny was a 1978 graduate of Asheboro High School. He dedicated more than 40 years of his life to the grocery industry, working as a Meat Market Manager throughout the Southeast. During his career, he helped open numerous new stores, sharing his experience, knowledge, and dedication to his trade.
Outside of work, Johnny had a passion that was hard to miss: he was a devoted Denver Broncos fan. His love for the Broncos ran so deep that he even named his beloved pet after prominent Broncos landmarks and traditions. His beloved pet, Denver, preceded him in death, while Levi remains a cherished part of his family.
Johnny also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially those without a home. He regularly cared for multiple feral cats in his community, making sure they were fed and properly cared for. He went beyond simply feeding them, arranging to have them spayed and neutered to help keep them healthy and prevent unwanted litters. His compassion for animals reflected the kindness he carried into his heart.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Ray Knowles, Sr. and Dixie Ruth Knowles; his sister, Pamela Ruth Knowles; and his beloved pet, Denver.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Regina Duncan Knowles; his stepsons, Kevin Gibson, Kristopher, and Nicholas (Leslie); his daughter-in-law, Benita Marquez; and his eight cherished grandchildren, Makenzie, Aiden, Zackary, Kaleb, Liam, Owen, Metztli, and Lorenzo. He is also survived by his beloved pet, Levi; his nephews, Josh Pugh (Mary) and Jeremy Pugh; great-nieces, Peyton Pugh and Riley Pugh; and great-nephew, Cason Pugh, along with other family members and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
Johnny will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his unwavering loyalty to his beloved Denver Broncos, and his genuine compassion for animals. He found ways to make a difference, even in the lives of the smallest and most overlooked creatures. His love for his family, his unique personality, and the memories he created along the way will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Though he may be gone, the impact of his life will live on through his family, the lives he touched, and the many memories that will be treasured for years to come.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
