Johnny Summers McDaniel, Jr., 86, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 9 at 2:00 PM, at Grace Baptist Temple 3305 Peters Creek Parkway with Pastor Ed Sears officiating. Burial will follow with entombment at Parklawn Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
Johnny was born in Forsyth County on June 16, 1926 to Johnny Summers McDaniel, Sr. and Nell Meeks McDaniel. He graduated from Midway High School, served in the US Army under General Patton during WWII, received a purple heart and served also in the Coast Guard Auxilary. He was self-employed with Vacuflo cleaning systems, was a member of Grace Baptist Temple, loved playing the piano and singing with the Ray of Son Shine Group with various nursing homes.
Surviving are his wife Wilma Bennett McDaniel of the home; son, David C. McDaniel & wife Connie of Lexington, stepson; Roger Farabee of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Patricia Welch and husband Sam of Lexington; two sisters, Ruth Smith and husband Richard and Joanne Moorefield and husband Harold all of Lexington; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
