Heaven rejoiced today, Friday December 20, 2013, when an angel went to heaven known to most as Johnny Gilbert Yarbrough.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday December 27, 2013 at Rolling Heights Faith Baptist Church where he was a faithful member as long as his health allowed, with Rev. Wayne Sechrest officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will see friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday December 26, 2013 at Davidson Funeral Home.
Johnny was born May 18, 1937 in Davidson County to Clarence Gilbert Yarbrough and Ruby Sparks Yarbrough. John graduated from Churchland High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force where he served honorably from 1957 to 1961. After service he was in vending with Coca Cola Bottling, where he worked 45 years until retirement. He was a former volunteer with Churchland EMS, and was an avid North Carolina Tarheels fan.
He is survived by his loving wife and side by side companion, for 53 years Barbara Bowden Yarbrough of the home; a son, whom he was a very dedicated father to Ted G. (Tad) Yarbrough of Winston-Salem; sister, Leona Amanda Hartley (Bruce) of Reedy Creek; and special niece who was like a daughter to him, Teresa Bowden Richardson.
