Joseph Brantley Hutchins

June 30, 1933 — August 4, 2019

Joseph Brantley Hutchins, age 86, of Lexington passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the Hinkle Hospice House.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with the Revs. Wayne Knight and Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.


The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Hutchins was born in Davidson County on June 30, 1933 to James Russell Hutchins and Minnie Powell Hutchins. He worked Philpott Furniture who sold to Burlington Industries and later retired from Heckman Furniture following a forty three year career in furniture. Mr. Hutchins had a passion for lawn tractors, namely the John Deere 318 and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose memory will be forever cherished. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Rayvon Hutchins, Marcus Hutchins, Charlie Hutchins, Carlyle Hutchins and Sam Hutchins.

Surviving are his loving wife Gail Leonard Hutchins of the home; his son, Ricky Joe Hutchins (JoAnn) of Lexington; his daughter, Tammy Hutchins Hedrick (Robbie) of Lexington; one brother, Jimmy Hutchins (Betty) of Hurt, VA; two sisters, Rebecca Hutchins Cherry (Ronald) of Mt. Holly and Sylvia Hutchins Hutchens (Eddie) of Pfafftown; four grandchildren, Brandon Hutchins (Brooke), Misty Hege (Vance), Brooke Coffey (Chevy) and Josh Hedrick (Emily); six great-grandchildren, Seth Hutchins, Cole Hutchins, Dakota Hege, Faith Hege, Ellie Hedrick and Gunner Hedrick; one great-grandchild on the way, Mali Coffey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jamie Jones and Hospice of Davidson County for their loving care.
