Joseph "Joe" Lewis Taylor

Joseph Lewis "Joe" Taylor, 87, of Greenway Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at Alston Brook Nursing Home. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Wesley Heights United Methodist Church, where he was a member, by the Revs. Nancy Krall and Dwight Cartner. A private inurnment will be held at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Taylor was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Smyth County, Va., to A. Frank Taylor and Anna Spickard Taylor. He was a retired salesman with Furniture Makers Supply and a veteran of the Army-Air Corps, having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Cole Taylor, on Nov. 3, 2002, and three sisters, Mildred, Virginia and Mary Helen. Surviving are two sons, Warren Lee Taylor and his wife, Donna, of Lexington and C. Frank Taylor and his wife, Judy, of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Layla Taylor of Thomasville, Robyn Taylor of Lexington, Erik Hunt of Charlotte, Joel Taylor and his wife, Jennifer, and Amanda O. Taylor, all of Salisbury, and Jamie Ball and Genia Ball, both of Statesville; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Dial of Lexington and Katlynn Ball of Statesville. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday in the fellowship hall of the church before the service and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Wesley Heights United Methodist Church, 100 Western Blvd., Lexington, NC 27295. Arrangements are by Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.
