Joseph Bobby Meachum, 86, of Bridgewood Court in Lexington, passed away Tuesday January 3, 2023 at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday January 9, 2023 at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member of which he was dedicated to the ministry of Silver SHUT-INS-LOVED –VISITED-ENCOURAGED-RESPECTED, with Rev. Frankie Matthews, Rev Jeremy Benbrooks and Rev. Rob Decker officiating services. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington. Mr. Meachum was born February 2, 1936 in Davidson County to Oscar Jay Meachum and Minnie Freelove Campbell Meachum. He attended Davidson County Community College and received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. Bobby was former member and a retiree from Law enforcement after 32 years of service and 21 years of active duty in the United States Army and Army Reserves. He served in Germany, France and Vietnam. During his time is service, he received the National Defense of Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Merit Unit Citation, Military Vehicle Driver Bar and Badge, Overseas Service Bar, Marksman Badge Bar, Sharpeshooters Badge Bar, and Sharpshooters Badge with Carbine Bar. Following his time served in the military he was a member of VFW Post 3074; American Legion Post 8, Amvets Post 777 and DAV Post and a HAM OPERATOR N4ZRE with the Civil Service. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Edward Jay Meachum Sr., David Lee Meachum, James C. Meachum, Oscar J. Meachum and Charlie Sanford Meachum; four sisters, Pauline Meachum, Juanita Meachum Black, Mary Nadine Meachum Wilson, and Naomi Mae Meachum Lookabill; and a granddaughter, Wendy Proctor. Surviving is his wife Mary Helen Lookabill Meachum of the home; Sister, Maxine Burkhart of Lexington; three sons, Robert Meachum (Cathy) of Lexington, Patrick Michael Meachum (Elizabeth) of Lexington and Mark Eric Meachum (Melody) of Lexington; two daughters, Patrica Melba Correll (Bobby) of Lexington and Theresa Nicole Edwards of Lexington; 7 grandchildren, Joey Correll, Joshua Edwards, Spencer Meachum, Melea Meachum, Misty Correl, Jennifer Tilden, Stephanie Barlett; 9 great-grandchildren, Ava Tilden, Luna Tilden, Brianna Benson, Kobe Benson, Jacob Vestal, Logan Clodfelter; Vadin Edwards ,Chase Barlett, and Camille Correll; 3 great great-grandchild, Gunner, Mallory and Emberlynn, Memories mat be made to The Silver Ministry at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church 210 Cotton Grove Road, Lexington NC 27292.
