Opal Joyce White Melton, 80, of Lexington, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010, at North Lexington Baptist Church, 201 Mize Road, with the Rev. Gavin Pratt officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends and relatives from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
Mrs. Melton was born March 17, 1930, in Davidson County, to John Alvin White and Rose Emma Davis White. She was a certified genealogist, taught Sunday school for 27 years and served on many committees. She worked extensively with the seniors at the church for many years. Joyce loved her church and everyone she knew there over the years. She had not been able to attend since July of this year, which distressed her very much. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Rubin White and John Alvin White Jr.; great-granddaughter, Amanda Haga; and her husband, Melvin C. Melton, who died June 18, 2006.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda M. Perryman and husband, Hoyle Gene; son, David W. McBride and wife, Georgiann; two step-sons, Bill Melton and wife, Leah, of Kernersville, and David Melton and wife, Sena, of Welcome; three grandsons, Andrew H. Perryman and wife, Bettie, Russell W. Perryman and wife, Nancy, and Timothy W. McBride; step-grandson, Clint Melton of Kernersville; step-granddaughter, Melissa Melton of Kernersville; two great-grandsons, Travis L. Haga Jr. and Luke T. Perryman; three great-granddaughters, Rebecca Haga, Erin Haga, and Lydia Perryman; a sister-in-law, Allene White of Trinity; a niece Barbara White of Trinity; and many devoted friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial funds may be sent to the Outreach Ministries at North Lexington Baptist Church, 201 Mize Road, Lexington, NC 27295.
