Judith Ann Byrd Dickens left all her burdens behind and took the hand of Jesus on March 10, 2018. Celebration of Home Going will be at the chapel of Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM and visitation on Monday following the service, and at other times at the home of her son, 2058 Palmer Road, Lexington. Entombment will be private at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Judy was born to Handy Menston Byrd and Arietta Crawley Byrd on July 27, 1934. She was the fifth child of twelve. She was married to Rev. Charles W. Dickens, who predeceased her on January 24, 2013 after 59 years of marriage. Judy was predeceased by two sisters: Louise Reville and Pansy Wall, and two brothers, Menston “Buddy” Byrd and Ralph Byrd. Judy was mother to three children: Vanessa Gayle Dickens McCrary, husband Rev. Robert Paul McCrary of Low Gap, NC; Deborah Kay Berger of Hendersonville, NC; and Gregory Charles Dickens, wife Traci Leann Yates Dickens, of Lexington, NC. She was loved by her eight grandchildren: Benjamin and Diane McCrary of Mt. Airy, NC; Joshua and Katie McCrary of Mt Airy, NC; Andrea and Dan Wallace of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Jared and Rebecca Berger of Hendersonville, NC; Nolan and Ashton Berger of Fletcher, NC; Oran Dickens, Jacob Dickens of Lexington, NC; and Daniel Dickens of Hendersonville, NC also surviving are her special loving great-grandchildren; Nataly and Autumn McCrary, Adalyn and Sadie McCrary of Mt. Airy, NC; Isaac Wallace of Fuquay-Varina, NC; and Hadlynn and Hudson Berger of Hendersonville, NC. Her loving brothers and sisters who will be left with wonderful family memories are Dewey Byrd (Daphne), Rev. Raymond Byrd (Martha), Yvonne Wilson, Jack Byrd (Margaret), Jerry Byrd (Sallie), James Byrd (Judy), and Roger Byrd (Betty). She had many loving nieces and nephews who were near to her heart and she loved them very much. The family would like to thank our wonderful friend who we consider as a sister, Merisa Everhart, who has helped with our Mother’s care. We would also like to thank the caring staff at Grayson Creek Assisted Living Memory Care Unit. Her family appreciates all the loving care provided for our Mother.
