Julia Harkey

Julia Margaret Harkey, age 89, of Lexington, NC died peacefully Thursday, November 2, 2017 at home, after a long illness.   A celebration of Julia’s life will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am with Chaplain Katie Lovelace from Liberty Hospice.   There will be no formal visitation.   Born 1928 in Lexington, Julia graduated from Denton High School, then Ashmore Business College in 1947. Julia went to work for Turlington & Company Accounting and then started her career as bookkeeper for Eddie Smith at National Wholesale Company and retired after 41 years of service in 1989.   Julia was very devoted to her family and her church. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Lexington.   She was preceded in death by her parents, William Bryan Harkey and Lillie Wiley Harkey;  two sisters, Willie Ruth Beane, Janice Teague, and infant brother, William Rosevelt Harkey.   She is survived by her sister, Patricia Harkey Hedrick of the home; nieces, Bonnie House, Judy Crow, Kaye Beane, Ann Coley, and Sue Beane; and nephew, Bill Hedrick Jr. She is also survived by several great nephews, a great niece and other extended family.    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Liberty Home Care and Hospice at 1007 Lexington Ave Thomasville, NC 27360.
