J.W. Bates

J.W Bates, 88 of Lexington, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025 at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, March 23, 2025 at First Reformed United Church of Christ with Rev. Elizabeth Horton officiating services.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Bates was born August 19, 1936 in Davidson County to Thomas Noble Bates and Elsie Odessa Burkart Bates. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and five siblings.

Surviving are his son, Gary Bates (Jennifer Musgrave) of Oak Island NC; his daughter Susan Odom (Calvin) of Lexington; 4 grandchildren, Devin Odom (Betsy), Jonathan Odom, Pamela Carlson, and Major Heather Hammond and 2 great-grandchildren, Clara Odom and Juliet Odom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Reformed United Church of Christ, 104 E. Center Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
