Kate Cole Smith

Kate Cole Smith, age 77 of Lingle Farm Road, Lexington passed away Saturday morning July 2, 2016 at Hinkle Hospice House. A celebration and reflection of her life will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Reeds United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Inurnment will be in the Reeds United Methodist Cemetery. Kate was born in Davidson County June 30, 1939 to Wiley Frank Cole and Nellie Hailey Cole. She was a member of Reeds United Methodist Church; worked for Lexington Home Brands and retired from Davidson County Schools in housekeeping. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Wade Smith, Sr. in 2007 and sisters, Betty Slemp and Mary Thompson and son-in-law, Jim Burckhalter . Kate is survived by her daughters; Katrinka Barnhart (Paul) of Lexington, Marlene Burckhalter of Thomasville, Tamra Wood (Curtis) of Advance and Kathryn Smith of Ontario, Canada; son, Charles Wade Smith, Jr. of Lexington; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorene Johnston of Statesville, Virginia Leonard (Ed) of Lexington; brother, John Cole (Debbie) of Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Hospice of Davidson County or Hinkle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292
