Mrs. Emily Katherine Holmes Berrier, 85, of Lexington, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Kathy was born in Forsyth County, North Carolina, on August 24, 1940, to the late William Paul Holmes, Sr. and Emily Crater Holmes. She was a faithful member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church for 65 years, where she had been a member of the Ralph Starr Bible Class. As a member of Sheets, she had served as the Two Year Old Sunday School Teacher, a nursery worker, a Bible School Teacher, and a Parent Volunteer with Junior Action.
Kathy was a 1958 graduate of Griffith High School in Forsyth County. She retired from the Lexington City Schools as an Instructional Assistant with 25 years of service. She loved and touched the lives of countless children through her encouragement, kindness, and love of learning.
She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and any kind of needlework in her spare time. Her family members have many cherished keepsakes that she crafted for them. She loved to play the piano, and you could hear her many times when coming through the door for Sunday lunch after church.
In her later years, she became a seasoned traveler. She traveled with her family across the United States. Her favorite trips included: Sequoia National Park, Niagara Falls, and The Grand Canyon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy J. Berrier. They were married for 61 years and displayed the truest meaning of love and devotion.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Wayne Berrier, Joel Berrier (Teresa), Lisa Fletcher (Steven), and Heather Tussey (Dan); her grandchildren, Trevor Berrier, Chase Berrier, Katherine Hilliard (Landon), Madison Tussey, and Trey Tussey; step grandchildren, Caylee Coffey, and Ashley Coffey: and great grandchild, Wyatt Hilliard; step great grandchildren, Hayven Coffey, and Landon, Westen, and Aleeah Presnell.
She is also survived by her sister, Jeanette Priestley, her brother, Bill Holmes (Mona), her brother-in-law, Jack Berrier (Sylvia), and sister-in-law, Janie Craver, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be Sunday evening, September 21, 2025 from 6-8 pm at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington. A graveside service will be held to honor Kathy’s life at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 22, 2025 at Shiloh Church Cemetery, with family and friends gathering to celebrate the many ways she blessed others.
The family would like to thank her special caregivers: Linda Berrier, Sharon Allred, Helen Meachum, and her special hospice nurse, Heather.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sheets Memorial Baptist Church or The Tunnels to Towers Foundation at t2t.org
