Katherine 'Kitty' Sizemore Craver

March 22, 1925 — October 10, 2018

Katherine ‘Kitty’ Sizemore Craver, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on October 10, 2018.

Kitty was born in Stokes County on March 22, 1925 to Morgan Duke Sizemore and Nannie Taylor Sizemore.  After graduation from Danbury High, she moved to Winston-Salem where she met “the good-looking” Staff Sgt. Luther Craver and soon began her life with him in the Arcadia Community of Davidson County.  Kitty was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Luther, her parents and brother, Herbert.

She is survived by her daughter, Penny Beck (Danny) of Lexington; son, Mark Craver, of the home; grandson, Dr. Bryan Abernethy (Tenesha) and great-grandson, Luke.  Additionally, surviving is her brother, Lester Rhodes (Sandy) and sisters, Barbara Elliott and Nancy Bryant, all of Rockingham, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Craver, of Myrtle Beach.

Kitty experienced an active and productive life.  She was continuously involved in charitable organizations working with the Medical Ministries of Lexington, Battered Women’s Shelters, Crisis Ministry of Davidson County, and for years delivered Meals on Wheels.  She was always the friend willing to take another to an appointment, prepare meals for the sick, care for sick family members and provide to others in any way necessary.  She was graduated from Ashmore Business College and was a retiree of PPG Industries where she spent years as the president of the retirees group.  She was a past president of the Davidson County Democratic Women, precinct chairperson for the Reedy Creek community, and had the pleasure of riding the campaign train with Lady Bird Johnson.  Later in her life, her fun times came with the Red Velvet Cupcakes of the Red Hat Organization and the Christian Women’s Group of Lexington.  Kitty thoroughly enjoyed travel, having spent time in Paris, Rome, Greece and numerous other European countries.

On Saturday, October 13, visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 pm with the funeral service following at 3 pm at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, 1082 Community Road, Lexington, NC.  Burial will follow immediately after in the church cemetery.

Deep thanks are given to Kitty’s constant caregivers, Diane Garrett, Tracy Teague, Jennifer McLean and Melissa Dean.
