Katherine Laynell Poole Hanes, age 88 answered Heaven’s call to come home Saturday, June 9, 2012. The Lord gently took your hand in his and said “well done, my angel, my good and faithful servant. Your work is done, your battles won “It is time to come home.”
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 11, 2012 at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Patrick Snow officiating.
There will be no formal visitation, however friends may come by Davidson Funeral Home to view and sign the register from 8:30 am until 1:00 pm Monday, June 11, 2012 prior to the service.
Mrs. Hanes was born in Davie County, to Clifton Casper Poole and Ola Mae Foster Poole. Born and raised in a farming family, Katherine was always a hard worker. As a young lady she worked at Mocksville’s General Store. After her family moved to Davidson County she worked at the Manhattan Shirt Company in Lexington. She married her sweetheart Foy in 1946 and soon after they began a family of their own. Later in life she was the care giver for her parents and several in-laws. She found joy in her faith, her family, her many friends and life’s simple pleasures. At Friendship Methodist she was a Sunday School Teacher and served on the church food committee for many years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Foy Thurston Hanes; a grandson, Jeffrey Hanes; sister, Margaret Poole Mize and her husband Tommy; and sister-in-law, Nell Potts Poole.
Katherine is survived by her two loving sons, Ronnie V. Hanes and wife Kay, Terry W. Hanes and wife Nita all of Lexington; grandson, Jeremy Hanes and wife Jessica; great-grandson, Hunter Hanes; brother, Albert Poole of Advance; many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Victor Farrah and his staff, Amedisys Home Health Care and Hospice of Davidson County for the loving care they gave Katherine.
