Kathleen (Kat) Shoemaker Swing, 87 of the Hedrick’s Grove Community died at the Carolina House of Lexington at 3:50 PM Friday February 18, 2011. Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Monday, (2-21-2011) at Hedrick’s Grove UCC with Rev. William Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Hedrick’s Grove UCC Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 pm prior to the service in the church Parlor.
Mrs. Swing was born August 6, 1923 in Lexington to Martin Young Shoemaker and Emma Jean Tillman Shoemaker and was raised in the Erlanger Community. She was a homemaker and retired from Manhattan Shirt Company. Mrs. Swing was preceded in death by her parents, husband Foy (Buster) Swing, a sister Helen Hamil and four brothers, Edgar, Walter, Everett, and Paul Shoemaker and daughter-in-law, Pam Swing. She was a member of Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She always had a smile and a “hey, hon” for everyone she met.
Mrs. Swing is survived by a daughter, Lynn Cope and husband Dan of La Grange, NC; three sons, Barry Swing of Lexington; Dr. Randy Swing and wife Karen of Tallahassee, FL; Martin Swing and wife Brenda of Huntersville, NC; five grandchildren, Jeff Cope and wife Rachel; Eric Cope; Wendy Tussey and husband Tony, Jr.; Taylor Swing and Bailey Swing and three great grandchildren, Dalton Tussey, Brandon Cope, and Molly Cope.
