Kathryn Swicegood Lakey, 82, of Brookstone Retirement Home, and formerly of Haden Grove Church Road, died Sunday November 9, 2008 at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 12 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Lori Anne Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Lakey was born October 7, 1926 in Davie County to Henry Arthur Swicegood and Essie Essick Swicegood. She retired from Dixie Furniture of Linwood. Mrs. Lakey was an active member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and enjoyed painting, growing flowers and sharing her pies. Her husband, Rodwell E. Lakey, her son, Doug Craig Lakey, and her daughter in law, Robin Lakey, preceded her in death as well as her brothers, Frank Swicegood, and James Swicegood and her sisters, Irene Bailey, Sue Swicegood, Ruby Clement, and Ann Carlton.
She is survived by her brother, H. A. Swicegood, Jr. of Georgia; her grandson, David Lakey; two great grandchildren; her special nieces and caregivers, Betty Saunders, of Linwood, and Linda Jones, and her husband, Wayne, of Lexington; and several other loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
