Kathy Solvig

June 19, 1933 — August 8, 2022

Kathleen (Kathy) Solvig went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 8, 2022. Born June 19, 1933, in Bend, OR., her life blessed us for 89 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Solvig, her parents, Walter and Florence Arnold, her sister, Faith, and her son, Davie. She is remembered by her son Arnie, his wife Cheryl, and her grandchildren Nicole, Stephanie, and Katie; as well as, her brother David (Jan) Arnold, her sisters Beverly Arnold and Pauline Morris as well as, the many nieces and nephews of the Arnold, Brokopp, Morris, and Timberlake families.

Kathy grew up in a missionary family in West Africa, her family moving to Ivory Coast when she was only 3 years old. Kathy accepted Christ as a very young child and was baptized at Medicine Lake Camp, MN at the age of nine. She felt God's call on her life in grade school and had this call confirmed while attending nurses' training at Swedish Covenant in Chicago.

Roy and Kathy were married on September 2, 1955, and three days later headed to St. Paul Bible College in St. Paul, MN. After receiving their degrees, they were first sent to Guinea, West Africa in 1960 with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Five years later the political situation made it impossible to remain in Guinea and they were reassigned to Ivory Coast in 1967. They made the most of this time by adopting their 1st son – Arnie.

God gave them good health they were able to continue serving in the Ivory Coast completing 40 years of ministry. Roy did evangelism and church planting in the villages while Kathy loved teaching children and young people as well as using Theological Education by Extension courses for church members.

Roy and Kathy retired in 1999 in Lexington, North Carolina. They joyfully spent their time serving in Grace Alliance Church while telling everyone stories about their experiences of God’s grace and miracles in Africa. Kathy was an avid lover of the beach, flowers, and birds. Her family remembers countless afternoons spent watching birds together or reminiscing about snorkeling at the beaches in San Pedro in Ivory Coast. Kathy was quick to kindness and loved to tell stories of how Jesus had been faithful to her through every moment. Kathy and Roy were always in constant prayer for their families, fellow missionaries, and friends across the globe, they will be dearly remembered and missed.
