Katie Jean Howe Olsen

Mrs. Katie Jean Howe Olsen, 80, of Fairway Drive, died Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Hinkle Hospice Home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 1821 Ashley Loop, Reidsville, NC 27320.

She was born on July 27, 1945, in Rockingham County, to the late William Howard and Edna Lee Abernathy Howe.

Mrs. Olsen was the editor of the Thomasville Times for many years and won many awards for the biographical feature articles she wrote for area newspapers. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, and loved dogs. Her favorite job was being a grandma.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Marie Koschelew; and a brother, William “Bud” Howe.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, John Buckley Olsen, of the home; a son, John H. Olsen; a daughter, Dr. Catherine Olsen and her husband, Jason; two grandchildren, John Caleb Olsen and Rylie Nicole Olsen; and several nieces.
