Katherine B. (Kay) Craver passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the age of 79.
There will be a service to honor Kay’s life at Second Reformed United Church of Christ at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2nd. The family will receive friends after the service.
Born to Kat and Sco Burkhart on January 17, 1943, Kay is survived by her two sisters, Sandra Snyder and Cindy Carlton (Richard), as well as her nieces and nephews, whom she considered as her own: Courtney Brown (Kevin), Elizabeth Lancaster (Brian), Rick Carlton, Katherine Carlton, and Will Carlton. She is also survived by six great nieces and nephews-Maggie, Will, Ty, Olivia, Kevin and Jake-and five stepchildren from her marriages to Fred O. Sink and Leonard Craver, both of whom preceded her in death. Kay’s parents and brother-in-law, Jim Snyder, also preceded her in death.
Kay was patient, unselfish, kind, witty and generous beyond measure. She always put others before herself. She was a talented pianist and an exceptionally graceful dancer. Kay is remembered fondly by many Davidson County folks for her teaching of proper etiquette and dance in her cotillion classes. She loved animals, especially her Caroline and Tomcat. Kay was known for her pleasant disposition and sweet smile.
Kay graduated UNC-Greensboro (Women’s College) and put her degree to good use as a social worker for the Davidson County Department of Social Services. She worked as an administrative assistant for Lexington Orthopedic Clinic and was also a realtor.
Kay was a dependable volunteer for multiple organizations, including Meals on Wheels and Pastor’s Pantry. She was presented with the Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service in 2014, which recognized her outstanding contributions to the community through her work with Davidson Medical Ministries Clinic. Kay was also a dedicated member of the Charity League of Lexington.
We are especially grateful for the loving care given to our Kay by the Horizons staff at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Humane Society of Davidson County or to Second Reformed United Church of Christ.
