Ollie Kay Tolbert Frick, 59, died Monday, April 25, 2011 at her home on Little Beaver Road.
The funeral will be held at 4pm Friday, April 29, at First Reformed United Church of Christ, where she was a member for many years. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Mike Hooper and Rev. June Grubb.
There will be a visitation Thursday, April 28 at Davidson Funeral Home from 6pm to 8pm, located at 301 N. Main Street in Lexington.
Kay was born May 22, 1951 in Iredell County to the late Wallace Allen Tolbert and Gladys Poole Tolbert. She was an only child. She graduated from South Iredell High School in 1969 and attended Appalachian State University to pursue a career in elementary education. Upon graduation from college, she began her career in teaching at Hudson Elementary School in Hudson, N.C. Kay was not only a teacher, but was also an avid saleswoman for Revlon and Perdue Frederick Pharmaceutical Company. Upon moving to Lexington in 1992, Kay worked for Head Start and eventually came back to her first love – teaching. She taught kindergarten at Pickett Elementary School for many years, and during the 2010-2011 school year moved to South Lexington Elementary School. She loved every student as if they were her own. Kay served as secretary of the Humane Society of Davidson County. She always had a passion for animals and enjoyed coming home to her pets. In addition, she enjoyed gardening, which she acquired from her parents while growing up on their farm in Troutman, N.C.
Surviving is her only daughter, Allyson Paige Frick of Raleigh.
