Mrs. Kay Nelson Shoaf, 79, of Reedy Creek, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A graveside service will be held at 4pm on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Bethesda Church Cemetery officiated by Pastor Devin Everhart. Visitation will be held from 3pm until 4pm in the Family Life Center at the church.
Kay was born July 7, 1946, in Surry County to the late James Clifford Nelson and Fallie Byerly Nelson. A devoted member of Bethesda Church in Lexington, retiring from Northwest Elementary school, she found joy in simple pleasures, quilting with care, shopping with friends and family, and cherishing time spent with those she loved most.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, Larry Wayne Shoaf, in 2022, as well as her brother-in-law, Jimmy Turner, and sister-in-law, Kathy Nelson.
Surviving are her son, Scott Mitchell Shoaf (Missy), and daughter, Amy Everhart (Brent). She was a proud grandmother to Tyler Everhart (Hannah), Devin Everhart (Ella), Ashton Bassett (Brandon), and Bryson Shoaf, and great-grandmother to Hudson Bassett, Jackson Everhart, and Bristyl Bassett. Also left to cherish her memory is her brother, James Nelson, and sister-in law, Ileen Turner, along with extended family and friends who will remember her warmth and kindness.
Kay will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love for her family, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to donor’s choice.
