Kelly Elizabeth Lowder, 53, of Weaver Dr., Lexington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. The oldest of five children, she was born in Statesville, N.C., on May 15, 1957, to Richard and Ferry Lane Austin Lowder.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Howell, 3rd, Dr. David Whiteman, Rev. Jimmy Lancaster and Rev. Richard Lowder II officiating. Following the service the family will proceed to the columbarium for a private inurnment then will meet friends in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary and other times at the home.
Kelly graduated from Lexington Senior High School, attended Davidson County Community College, Sandhills Community College and St. Andrews College. Kelly’s work was mainly volunteering for various charities including the March of Dimes, Easter Seals, Hospice of North Carolina and other deserving organizations. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church and a member of Rochelle Baker Sunday school class. When Kelly turned 50 years old she enjoyed a year-long celebration with friends and family. Kelly was the Easter Seals Poster child in 1972, traveling the state of North Carolina as it’s representative and working with Governor & Mrs. Terry Sanford. Kelly was First Princess at Davidson County’s Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1972.
Surviving are her parents of the home; her brothers, Richard Lowder II, Mark Lowder and wife, Sandra, all of Winston Salem, Peter Lowder and wife, Amy, of Charlotte; sister, Britt Lane Lowder Gordon and husband, Skip, of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. Kelly will be missed by all who loved her.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for their kindness and care for Kelly.
