Kenneth Gene Owens, 62, of Fairfield Court, Thomasville, passed away Tuesday morning, June 8, 2010, at his home. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Freedom Baptist Church by Preacher Clyde Akers. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Kenny was born in Davidson County on Jan. 12, 1948, to Eugene Owens and Nellie Williams Owens. He was a former employee of Heckman Furniture and attended Freedom Baptist Church. He volunteered many years at Central Middle School and at Southwood Elementary, where he was a member of the boosters club, coaching softball and overseeing cheerleading. Surviving are his wife, Debra Harmon Owens of the home; four daughters, Dawn Landrum and husband Lee of Greenville, S.C., Kendra Walters and husband H.J. and Tiffany Swicegood and husband Randy Lee, all of Lexington, and Brandi Brinkley and husband Jeremy of Thomasville; 10 grandchildren, Justin, John, Spencer, Krista, Haven, Hunter, Conner, Alex, Cannon and Kenzie; one great-grandchild, Kynnedi; two sisters, Diane Owens Myers and Pamela Owens, both of Thomasville; one brother, Paul Wayne Owens of Asheboro; special father and mother-in-law, Jake and Martha Berrier; and many special nieces and nephews.
