Mr. Kenneth Cook “Kasey” Haynes, 86, of the Arcadia Community, Davidson County, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 31 at Forsyth Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ray Surratt officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Haynes was born November 12, 1922 in Lewisville, Rt 1, (West Bend), the son of Gladys Jones Haynes and James F. Haynes. He graduated from Lewisville High School and attended Mars Hill Junior College for two years, where he was played on the Varsity Basketball Team. He joined the Army Air Corp on July 6, 1942. During his three years of service, he attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College in Pennsylvania as a cadet and served two years in maintenance and servicing armaments on fighter planes at Buckley Field in Colorado.
He worked as a tool and die maker at Western Electric in Winston Salem until his retirement in 1978.
Kenneth was an active member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, where he taught the Men’s Bible Class for many years. His interests were quail hunting, training his bird dogs, gardening, his highly talented gunsmithing, and watching his “carolina blue.” He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, calm disposition, and he will be remembered by his hunting buddies. His wife, the former Lila Peake of Columbia, SC, preceded him in death in 2004.
He is survived by his brother, Lawrence Haynes, and wife, Wilma of East Bend; and two sisters, Mary Haynes Dalton of Winston Salem, and Anne Haynes Jenkins, and husband, Jim, of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church.
