Kenneth "Ken" Yarbrough Truell

August 12, 1928 — September 21, 2015

Kenneth “Ken” Yarbrough Truell, of Southmont passed away Monday morning September 21, 2015 after several years of declining health. A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday September 23, 2015 at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Charles L. Tanner officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors by Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 12:30 until 1:30 prior to the service. Ken was born in Davidson County August 12, 1928 to Watt Ambrose Truell and Amelia Yarbrough Truell. Ken attended Jones Business College, and was retired owner/operator of Piedmont Furniture Supply in Thomasville. He was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and President of United Methodist Men. Ken was a former Jaycee and a veteran of the US Navy having served on the USS Currier. He remained lifetime friends with two special shipmates; Duane Rohde of Lake View, Iowa and Bill Vandiver of Clemmons, NC; Ken was a lifetime member of Amvets Post 13, VFW Post 3074. He was Past Commander of American Legion Post 8 and was appointed to various state committees. Ken was an historian for the Department of North Carolina American Legion, where he won many first place awards for his histories on state and national levels. He later became one of the judges at the National American Legion Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. He especially enjoyed attending horse shows and was a very proud rider of his Tennessee Walking Horses. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jack Truell. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Michael Truell of the home; son, Lee Truell and wife Jamie of High Rock Lake, granddaughters, Skylar Truell Lineback and husband Brent of Lexington, Sommer Nicole Truell of High Rock Lake; great-grandson, Carter; sister, Lynn Truell Young and husband Don of Fort Mill, SC; brother, Steve Truell and wife Margaret of Lexington.
