L. Ellis Berrier

November 29, 1934 — March 15, 2017

Lewie “Ellis” Berrier, age 82, of Dykers Creek Rd. Lexington passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Brookstone Retirement Center in Lexington.   A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday March 17th at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Hwy 150, Lexington, NC with the Pastor Eric Miller of New Home Freewill Baptist Church in Piney Creek, NC officiating. There will be no public viewing; however, the family will greet friends after the service in the Family Life Center at Shiloh UMC per his request.   Ellis graduated from Reeds High School in 1953, and retired from Lexington Furniture Industries.  He loved being outside sawing lumber on his sawmill and splitting wood for his winter use.  He and Mary raised  registered Nubian goats for over 25 years on their Emerald Acres Farm.  He was a member of the Lexington Memorial Masonic Lodge # 473 and was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Oasis Shriners organizations.  He was a leader in his church, serving as Sunday school teacher for the Young Adult Class and along with his wife, served as Youth Leader.  Ellis also served as Chairperson for the Official Board at Shiloh UMC.    Ellis was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1934 in Davidson County to Lewie and Flora Grubb Berrier.  In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Lily Grace Crowell, two infant brothers and Brother Eddie Ray Berrier and Sister Helen Berrier and brother-in-law, Bobby Odom.   On August 29, 1953, he married Mary Alice Sink, daughter of Clem W. and Edna M. Sink. During their 63 year marriage, they had four children, Cynthia Michael and husband Gary, Kelin Berrier and wife Linda, and Marcia Crowell all of Lexington and Stefan Berrier and wife Trish of Cumming, GA. Grandchildren, Dr. Leah Leonard and husband Steve of Lexington, Casey Berrier and wife Vicky of Thomasville, Loni Berrier, Hannah Crowell and Trevor Crowell of Lexington, and Justin Berrier and wife Ashley of Tennessee.  Great grandchildren, Claire and Ava Quinn Leonard of Lexington and Corbin Ellis Berrier of Thomasville brothers Randall Berrier and wife Carolyn and Billy Berrier and wife Cathy and sisters, Edith Wallace and husband Danny, Evelyn Hunt and husband Clyde, Virginia Odom and sister-in-law Judy Berrier.   In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Family Life Center Fund at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 943 N NC Hwy 150, Lexington, NC 27295 or Hospice of Davidson County. 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.   The family would like to thank all those which have assisted the family in caring for “my husband” and “our dad” during these difficult days.
