L.A. Freeman, Jr.

August 4, 1934 — November 4, 2021

Mr. Leonard Allen Freeman, Jr, 87, of Turner Road, died Thursday, November 4 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm Sunday, November 14 at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Randy Hall. Burial will follow at Sandy Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Freeman was born August 4, 1934 in Rowan County to Leonard Allen Freeman and Carrie Edwards Freeman.  He graduated from NC State University with a B.S. degree in 1956 and an M.A. degree in 1966. He faithfully served his country as a Captain in the US Army Reserves until 1968. He taught at Western Alamance High School for 10 years and later retired in 1988 as an administrator at Davidson County Community College after 21 years of service.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon.  He also taught Sunday School, served as a youth leader and Troop Committee Chairman for Boy Scout Troop 205.  His wife, Annie Sowers Freeman, and his grandson, Troy William Swicegood, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Freeman Swicegood and husband, Tim, of Lexington; his son, David Allen Freeman of Garner; and his grandchildren, Amber Elizabeth Swicegood, Alexandria Lee Freeman Stoneham, and Jonathan Allen Freeman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Davidson Medical Ministries, 420 N. Salisbury St., Lexington, NC 27292, or to Crisis Ministry, 107 E. First Ave, Lexington NC 27292.
