It is with great sadness that the family of Rev. Lamar Luther Moore, 91 of Lexington, announces his passing on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. He died peacefully at the Hinkle Hospice House.

Lamar was born on March 30th, 1934 to Luther and Leila Moore, the 11th of 16 children. He grew up in Cobbtown, GA working the family tobacco farm. After graduating high school, he attended Mercer University where he played football and pursued a career as a teacher of agriculture. On June 9th, 1956 he married Joyce Willis. They were blessed with three daughters. He taught agriculture in Sampson County, NC for 5 years, working on shrimp boats in Davis, NC during the summers.

During this time, he felt called to serve and attended Southern Seminary to become a Baptist minister. He began his ministry at Turnpike Baptist in McRee, GA. Later moving to Lexington, NC, he ministered at Center Hill Baptist Church for over 30 years and became Pastor Emeritus in 2002.   After the passing of his wife Joyce in 1981, he married Louse Young Anderson in May 1983.

Rev. L.L. Moore was instrumental in forming what is now Davidson County Senior Services. He also served as chairman on the Board of Health and the Board of Davidson County Senior Services. He provided representation on the NC Senior Legislature in Raleigh for many years. Throughout his life he received numerous awards and accolades for his services, including induction into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 13 siblings, his first wife Joyce, his oldest daughter Amy Shapiro and stepson Dale Anderson. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Louise; his daughters Donna (Barry) Lemons and Cindy Moore; stepdaughter Carol (Micky) Conrad; his grandchildren Joshua (Carson) Lemons and Caroline (Ellie) Lemons; step-grandchildren Brandon (Brandy) Conrad, Kara (Norris) Feeney and Elisa (Ross) Sommer; his great-grandchildren Roseila Sommer, Conrad Sommer, Anderson Conrad, Everett Feeney and soon-to-be baby Lemons; his sister Naomi Molcan of Florida; and brother Roger (Colette) Moore of Georgia.

A celebration of life will be held at 2pm Saturday, January 10 at Center Hill Baptist Church, by the Revs. Sandy Young and Brian Alexander.  The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. He will be laid to rest at a later date beside his late wife, Joyce, in Davis, NC.
