Larry Giles Koontz, 79, of Lexington, passed away at the Hinkle Hospice House on June 2, 2026.

Larry was born June 1, 1947, in Davidson County, North Carolina, to the late Clinton F. Koontz and Annette Barney Koontz. Larry was a graduate of West Davidson High School and a graduate of NC State University School of Agriculture. He retired from the NC Department of Transportation where he served as supervisor for 30 years. Larry loved the outdoors and enjoyed farming. He had a passion for tractors and working with farm equipment.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen Briggs Koontz of the home; and his brother, Frank Koontz and wife Patricia of Raleigh, NC; niece Kristye Brackett (Hunter) of Raleigh; nephews, Charles Koontz (Jennifer) of Atlanta, Sean Mabe of Lexington; great nephews, McKay Brackett of Raleigh, Davis Koontz of Atlanta; great niece, Lee Koontz of Atlanta, and many loving cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held 4:00 PM, Friday, June 5, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church with Pastor Eddie Pless and Pastor Angela Powell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sandy Creek Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 3:00 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Lutheran Church or Hospice of Davidson County.

Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.
