Larry J. Kunar, age 82, of Denton, NC, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. He was born on August 10, 1943, the son of the late Louis and Helen (Rhinehart) Kunar of Ravenna, OH. Larry is survived by his wife Ruth (Kline) Kunar of Denton, NC; his three sons: Craig Kunar (Dawn) of Toledo, OH, Brian Kunar (Kristi) of Chapin, SC, and Darren Kunar (Stephanie) of Graham, NC and siblings: brother Paul Kunar (Glenda, deceased) of Ravenna, OH; sister Dorthy Thomas, deceased (Bill) of Ravenna, OH; and brothers Ed Kunar (Sandy, deceased) of Hampstead, NC and Fred Kunar (Edna) of Columbus, OH.
Larry was a cherished grandfather to Josh Kunar (Erika), Brandon Kunar, AJ Matthews, Sara Busler, Kevin Steele (Shannon), Kayla Grooms (Sam), Zach Kunar, and Megan Kunar. He was also a loving great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren.
Larry graduated from Ravenna High School in 1961 and earned his degree from Bowling Green State University in 1975. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964, with stations in Kentucky, Taiwan, and Maryland.
In 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Kline. Their loving marriage spanned 62 beautiful years.
A successful businessman, Larry worked in Massachusetts, Ohio, and North Carolina. In 1989, he started his own company, BCE, in Charlotte, NC, which he operated until 2002.
He enjoyed target shooting, boating, fishing, bowling, playing cards, and was known by family and friends as a talented “fix-it man” who could repair just about anything.
Larry will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, and a hardworking man who lived life fully. He was always thinking of others before himself and helped those around him. His warm spirit and many talents touched countless lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Larry’s memory to the American Cancer Society, Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church (Lexington, NC), or Alderwood of Davidson County (formerly Hospice of Davidson County, NC).
The family will receive guests at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 619 South Main Street, Lexington, NC, beginning at 10:00am on Saturday, July 11, 2026. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00am. Burial, with military honors, will be held, 2:30 PM on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC.
