Larry Laxton

Larry Lynn “Smokey” Laxton, 63, of Hege Drive, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday May 6, at Psalm 91 Church, where he was a member, by the Revs. Max Shoaf and Kenneth Deal. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Laxton was born in Mecklenburg County on November 5, 1943, to Fornie Moore Laxton and Annie Bell Little Laxton. He was a truck driver at Sue Ann Trucking. Mr. Laxton was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Grace Laws Laxton. Surviving are a son, Keith Laxton and wife, Janie, of Lexington; daughters, Lorie James and husband, Jerry, of Lexington, and Claudia Davis of Thomasville; brothers, Jack Laxton and wife, Ruby, Bob Laxton and wife, Margaret, all of Albemarle, Ernie Laxton, Paul Laxton; Jerry “Nook” Laxton and wife, Nancy, of Spencer, and Curt Laxton of Rockingham; a sister, Joyce Perdue and husband, Bobby, of Lexington; and five grandchildren, Bryan Laxton, Austin Davis, Tyler Grooms, Tyler Sneed, and Tori Grooms. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of the son on First Rainbow Street.
