Laura Ventrene Powell

December 18, 1963 — July 21, 2025

Laura Powell, a beloved resident of Lexington, went to be with her lord and savior on Monday, July 21st, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on Wednesday, December 18th, 1963, she was the cherished daughter of the late James Pitts Deford III and Frankie Sue Newsome.

Throughout her life, Laura was known for her profound love of nature and animals. She found immense joy in her garden, where she cultivated an array of vibrant flowers, with roses holding a special place in her heart. Her garden, rich with rose bushes of many colors, was a testament to her nurturing spirit and her appreciation for the beauty of the natural world.

Laura's passion for animals was evident in the deep bond she shared with her fur babies, Tansie and Willow. Her home was a sanctuary for her beloved dogs and cats, and her love for them knew no bounds.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Taylor Barnett, who carries forward Laura's legacy of love and compassion. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her children, Chelsea Powell and Richard Powell III. Their memories will forever be cherished by those who loved them.

Laura's kindness and warmth extended far beyond her personal interests. She was a generous individual, always eager to give back to her community. In honor of her memory, the family invites donations to the Hospice of Davidson County, at 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.

Laura Powell will be fondly remembered for her love of life, her caring nature, and her dedication to her family, her pets, and her garden. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
