Leila Barber Craver

October 27, 1926 — February 13, 2018

The family of Leila Barber Craver now rejoices that, after many years of wanting to go “home”, she is finally at peace.  Mrs. Craver passed away February 13th from complications of dementia.  Her family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff at Grayson Creek Assisted Living for the loving care they have given her (and us) over the last year. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18 at Lexington City Cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home.   Leila was born October 27, 1926 to the late Eugene D. and Etta D. Barber.  One of ten siblings, she grew up in the Churchland community and graduated from Churchland High School.  After her marriage to the late Lacy Bryson Craver, she was well-known for her smile and her sandwich-making skills at Craver’s Carry Out, a family business, until its closing in the late 1980’s.  She was also a long time member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ where she served terms as both secretary and treasurer of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy Bryson Craver and five siblings: Gene Barber, Beulah Gullett, Hilda Ribelin, Jerry Barber, and Mitzi Michael.  Mrs. Craver is survived by two daughters, Robin Craver Leonard (Terry) and Jennifer Craver Brady (Lee), and one step-daughter, Sandra Craver Snyder (Jim).  Her surviving siblings are Carol Barber Johnson, Willie Barber Swing, Betty Barber Tarleton, and Lanny Barber.  She was Nanny to four grandchildren: Marcus L. Murphy (Lynn), Tera E. Leonard, Nicholas L. Brady (Stephanie), and Bryson J. Brady (Jessica), as well as five great-grandchildren: Drew Murphy, Kaden Murphy, Hayden Leonard, Cyrus Brady, and Thatcher Brady.  She was Nanny Leila to Courtney S. Brown and Elizabeth S. Lancaster and families. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Reformed United Church of Christ, 330 North Church Street, Lexington NC 27292 or to Alzheimer’s Association Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.     Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
