Mrs. Lena Briggs Beck, 92, of Davidson County, passed away August 31, 2012 at Hinkle Hospice House after a short illness. She was born April 2, 1920. She was a teller for First Union National Bank for 28 years. Her greatest love outside of her grandchildren was her church family at Beck's Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivey Lee and Addie Mae Briggs; her loving husband of 44 years, James Paul Beck; and her brother, Arlin Briggs. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Dr. Richard Whitten, Carrollton, GA; three grandchildren and their fiancées, Richard Whitten, Jr and Amy Junne, Irvine, CA; Paula Beck Whitten and Oliver Doolin, Houston, TX; and Charlie Whitten and Katie Cerling, Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by her three sisters, Ruby Delk Harris of Denton; Edith Briggs Honeycutt of Lexington and Wilma Briggs Byerly of Lexington; one brother-in-law, Clifford Beck of Denton and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mrs. Beck was held at Davidson Funeral Home on Sunday, September 2, from 5 to 7 pm. Her funeral was conducted at Beck's Lutheran Church by Rev. Angie Jackson on Monday, September 3, at 11 am. Pallbearers were Ronald Lamb, Bud Stiles, Randy Byerly, Boyd Delk, Richard Honeycutt, Alan Myers, and Roger Vawter. Honorary pallbearers were the Happy Ladies Class.
