Lena Sink Proto

Lena Sink Proto, 95 died Saturday Feb.21st at Alston Brook Nursing Home. Mrs. Proto was born in Davidson County on September 6, 1913 to Joseph Lee Sink and Ida Mae Wagner Sink. She was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College and a member of Alpha Psi Omega. Mrs. Proto taught high school English at Cooleemee, Gastonia, Welcome, Arcadia and North Davidson High School, retiring in 1976 after thirty-nine years in the classroom. She was a member of the NCAE and the Davidson County Retired Teachers Assoc. A memorial service will be held 4 pm Wednesday Feb.25th at Pilgrim Lutheran Church conducted by Rev Craig D. Saltzer. A priviate interment will take place at a later date. She was a lifelong member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and was honored as a Life Member by the Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1996. She served as the church organist, a sunday school teacher and was a past member of the church council. Her husband Ralph Santo Proto, Sr. died in 1985. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Joe Ray Sink. She is survived by her daughter Sara Proto Welch (Del Welch) and her son Ralph Proto,Jr. both of Lexington and two grandson's, Chad Welch and Kevin Welch. The family would like to thank Mrs. Proto’s long time care giver Gale Marlow and the entire staff at Alston Brook for the excellent care of our Mother for the past two years. The family at other times will be at the home of her son on Lake Leonard Road. Memorials may be made to the Handicap Access Fund of Pilgrim Lutheran Church 823 Ridge Road, Lexington, NC 27295.
