Aaron Leon Garner, 84, of East US Highway 64, died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Darrell Sluder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service and other times at the home.
Mr. Garner was born in Davidson County, August 13, 1929, to Noah Edgar Garner and Lena Brown Garner. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and later was owner and operator of Garner Masonry and a former Chief of Holly Grove Fire Department where he served his community for many years. He greatly enjoyed the holiday season which was displayed in his decorations of lights at his home for the last 25 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Diehl and Ruby Rudd.
Surviving are his loving wife Peggy Crotts Garner of the home; sons, Mike Garner and wife Cathie of Mocksville, Eddie Garner and wife Jackie and Steven Garner and wife Ebony, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Mitchell Garner, Micah Garner, Morgan Garner, Heather Hall and husband Jason, Chad Garner and wife Becky, Valerie Leonard and husband Matthew, and Pilar Garner; great-grandchildren, Pria Hall and Miller Hall; twin sister, Lavon Dockham of Salisbury and sister, Katheryn Kiger of Greensboro; and his favorite canine companion, Sparky Garner.
