Leon Billy Varner

Leon Billy Varner, 78, of Wildlife Road, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Lexington Health Care after an illness of four years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Beck's Reformed Church by the Rev. Gerald Sanders. Burial will follow in Beck's Reformed Cemetery. Leon was born in Davidson County on Dec. 22, 1929, to Clifford Henry Varner and Maude Alford Varner. He was a retired employee of Hekman Furniture and a member of Beck's Reformed Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Imogene Martin; and a brother, Rayford Varner. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty Hines Varner, of the home; a daughter, Shirley Ann Varner Putnam, of Lexington; and several special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
