Leona Raye Owens Sink

April 24, 1932 — October 4, 2012

Leona Raye Owens Sink, 80 of Woodcrest Dr., Lexington died Thursday October 4, 2012 after a sudden illness at Wake Forest Health Lexington Medical Center. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she was a lifelong member with Pastor Howard G. Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Sandy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington and at other times at the home on Woodcrest Dr. Mrs. Sink was born in Davidson County on April 24, 1932 to Raymond Sanford Owens and Kathleen Fritts Owens. She graduated from Reeds High School and Lenoir Rhyne University. She was a retired school teacher having taught over 41 years with most of them being at West Davidson High School. She coached every girls sport at West Davidson and was inducted into the West Davidson Hall of Fame. She was currently working for the Get Real Program at Davidson County Community College and at the YMCA. At St. Luke’s Lutheran Church she was very active, playing the organ for over 30 years, teaching Sunday school, keeping the children’s nursery, was a youth leader and served on the missionary society and church council. She served the community being inducted into the Davidson County Republican Hall of Fame in 2011 and was a member of the Republican Women’s and Executive Committee of the Republican Party. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, of 56 years Fred C. Sink, the love of her life. Surviving are her loving daughters, Susan Sink Brown and husband Steve of Lexington, Kimberly Sink of Winston Salem, Holly Sink Harmon and husband Eddie of Lenoir and Jody Sink of Lexington, 4 grandchildren, Shannon Wagner, Courtney Poarch , Taylor Poarch and Will Davis, 2 great grandchildren, Nathan Wagner and Hunter Anders, brother Sandy Owens and wife Penny of Lexington, sisters, Barbara Allred and friend Bruce Lohr of Lexington, Bea Frye and husband C.A. of Hickory and Becky Causby and husband Ralph of Greensboro.
