Leonard R. Caldwell

Leonard R. Caldwell age 98 of Lanier Drive passed away unexpectedly at his home in Welcome, NC on Friday, July 2, 2010. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Oakwood Cemetery, Statesville, NC. A visitation will be held Monday, July 5, 2010 from 6 to 8 PM at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel. He is survived by his son Leonard Caldwell of Winston-Salem, a granddaughter Marilyn Caldwell of Herndon, VA, grandson Karl Caldwell of Winston-Salem and his special friend Linda Gauldin of Welcome. He was preceded in death by his wife Willie Thompson Caldwell, his three sisters, Bertha Rinehardt, Fannie Withers, Bessie Hayes and a brother George Caldwell. Leonard was born in Catawba County, NC on May 12, 1912 a son of Joe and Caroline (Callie) Sherrill Caldwell. He was a great father to his son, a source of knowledge and support to his two grandchildren and a friend and mentor to many of the children in his neighborhood. He was a true character with a quick wit who leaves behind many friends and acquaintances. There was only one of him and we will truly miss him.
