Leonard Stephens Lopp, 78, of Junior Order Home Road, died Wednesday, November 26, at his home after a period of declining health.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014, at Forest Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Dolan Humphries officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 30, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Mr. Lopp was born April 18, 1936, in Davidson County, to Della Mae Stephens Lopp and John Peter Lopp Sr. He was a member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church. He graduated from Linwood High School in 1954. He retired in 1993 as a civilian from Charleston Air Force Base, Charleston, SC, after serving 33 years as an aircraft mechanic. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, William A. Lopp, John Peter Lopp Jr. F.O. Lopp “Buck” Lopp; and sisters, Opal Lopp Smith and Imogene Lopp Zeilman.
Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Gaynell Jarrett Lopp of the home; daughter, Ginger Lopp Bitterman and husband Rev. Chris Bitterman Sr., of Lexington; son, Joel E. Lopp of the home; granddaughters, Lynette Bitterman Stewart and husband Michael of Boone, Valerie Bitterman of Lexington; grandsons, Chris Bitterman Jr., and William Bitterman of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews.
