Leroy Hutchins

April 29, 1931 — July 5, 2013

Leroy Hutchins, 82, of Lexington, with his loving wife by his side, went to be with our Lord, on Friday evening, July 5, 2013. A celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Davidson Funeral Home, 301 North Main St., Lexington, NC. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at National Cemetery in Salisbury. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the funeral home. Leroy was born April 29, 1931 in Phenix City, AL to William Josh and Vinnie Mae Hutchins. Leroy served in the Alabama National Guard and was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army serving one tour in the Korean War. Leroy was a welder by trade and worked for several years for International Harvester Company both in Libertyville, IL and Moline, IL. When he first moved to North Carolina, he continued in the welding trade working for Mickey Body of High Point. At retirement, Leroy joined his wife Mary in her business and together they started 20 years of working together in the flea market. They worked together every day and traveled throughout North and South Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia. Most recently their business was exclusively located at the Lexington Wholesale Market and Webb Road Flea Market of Salisbury, NC. Leroy was a quiet man, a devoted husband, who loved to joke and tease those around him. Leroy loved playing cards, horseshoes, going to the beach, fishing, tinkering in his shed, and grooming his yard. Most of all he loved the Lord and his family. Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughters, Teresa (Kevin) Clark of Saint Charles, MO, Catherine (Doug) Bracken of Middletown, OH, grandchildren Amber Clark, Koren Clark-Wilson, Aaron Clark and Benjamin Bracken; 6 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Willie (Troy) Bedington of Archdale, North Carolina, Milton (Faye) Hutchins of Auburn, AL, Alton (Nona) Hutchins of Ararat, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his daughter Reba Hutchins, his parents, and nine brothers and sisters.
