Lester Thales Darr

June 18, 1928 — January 16, 2023

Lester Thales Darr passed peacefully to be with His Lord and Savior on January 16, 2023 after a brief illness.

Lester was born to William Adam and Jesse Ila Darr on June 18, 1928 at their home in Churchland, NC. His early years in Horseshoe Neck were filled with hard work and fun on their family farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings: Raymond, Ella, Lacey, Latta Fitzgerald, Helen Leonard, Mock, Ruth Barnes, and Carey.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 69 years, Ann Strickland Darr, whom he married in June of 1953. He is also survived by two daughters, Katherine Darr (Larry Burks) of Biltmore Lake, NC and Jeri Price (Joe) of Sunset Beach, NC; five grandchildren, Ginny Brookshire (Ricky), Jamie Quintana (Dillon), David Price, Erin Burks Chang (Justin), and Jake Burks; five great-grandchildren, Roman, Camden, Aletheia, Leorah, and Evangelina.

Lester was a long-time member of Jersey Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was involved in mission outreach with the Men of the Church in various community services including volunteering at the homeless shelter, construction for hurricane relief, Habitat for Humanity projects, and sharing his testimony.

As a Veteran of the United States Army, he attended Catawba College and graduated with a B.A. in 1957. He was employed in the textile industry as an Industrial Engineer for over 27 years, until relocating to High Rock Lake in 1984 where he worked at Byrd Motor Lines until his retirement.

Lester enjoyed life, freely giving his time playing and laughing with his family and friends, whether in the backyard, around a card table, or on the golf course. He was known for his great sense of humor, antics and the proverbial Darr “picking”.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Jersey Baptist Church, 2920 Jersey Church Road, Lexington, NC with Dr. Paul Batson and Rev. Megan Hager officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM. A private interment will be a held at a later date.
