Lewis George Blackburn

Lewis George Blackburn, 68, of R.L. Norris Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Rowan Regional Hospital in Salisbury. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lexington City Cemetery by the Rev. David Langley. Mr. Blackburn was born May 2, 1940, in Guilford County to Lester Blackburn and Blanche King Blackburn. He served in the U.S. Army and was a former bridge foreman with D.W. Winkleman before becoming disabled. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Byers Blackburn. Surviving are two sons, Jeff Blackburn of Linwood and Gene Blackburn and his wife, Nancy, of Kernersville; three daughters, Sandy Lucas and her fiancé, Jamey Whitley, Melissa Hicks and her husband, Tommy, and Christy Hodges, all of Salisbury; 10 grandchildren, Brittany, Stephanie, Brandi, Josh, Jonathan, Lindsey, Tyler, Ashley, Amber and Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Allyson and Brooklin; two brothers, James Blackburn of South Carolina and Joseph Blackburn of Florida; a sister, Betty Sue McCollough of Wallburg; an uncle, Mack King of Lexington; and an aunt, Mary Hines of High Point. The family will receive friends at the home of Jeff Blackburn, Sowers Road, Linwood. Memorials may be made to Davidson County Cancer Services, 25 W. Sixth Ave., Lexington, NC 27292.
