Lewis Mock Owen, 81, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Jersey Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Revs. Dr. Nancy B. Rankin and Morris Hollifield. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friend from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Owen was born June 8, 1932, in Davidson County, to Cuther Owen and Rosa Crook Owen. He was retired owner operator of Owen & Fritts Construction and also had proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Owen was a member of VFW Post 3074, American Legion Post 8, and Amvets Post 13. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Buford Owen and Elza Owen; and sisters, Ruby Brown and Pearl Sprinkle.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Peggy Stewart Owen of the home; daughter, Tracey Hogan and husband John of Elkin; stepsons, Terry Rankin and wife, Rev. Dr. Nancy Rankin of Greensboro and Steve Rankin and wife Shirley of Troutman; grandchildren, Zack Gough of Lewisville and Chance Hogan of Elkin; four step-grandchildren, Aaron Rankin of Kannapolis, Greg Rankin of Ohio, Brooke Small of Cornelius and Elaina Harmon of Denver; great-grandchild, Emma Kate Gough of Lewisville; eight step-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Willie Owen and wife Barbara and Vernon Owen and wife JoAnne, all of Lexington.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
